PlayStation Store Update for Oct 8th 2009

This week on the PlayStation Store, Europe has a price promotion on several PSOne classics and a whole load of new downloadable titles have also been added including NBA Live 10, Tomb Raider Legend and Holy Invasion Of Privacy Badman!. Three new PSP Minis titles are also available in Europe. For the US, the new episode of PULSE is now available as well as NBA Live 10. You can also find a selection of premium PSP themes from the US Store.

PSP Sales Up 300% In North America

The PSPgo has given PSP sales a huge boost in North America. Sony has yet to release any hard numbers for the PSP Go, but according to Sony Computer Entertainment America, the latest PSP iteration is doing a great job of boosting sales for the PSP platform. In the three days since launch, sales have jumped 300% compared to the previous week.

SCEE PSPgo Rewards Experiencing Issues

Games who have received their PSPgo Rewards voucher have been experiencing issues when downloading their free PSP games. The voucher entitles those upgrading from an older PSP to download three free PSP titles from a list of games on offer. However, downloading the games to your PS3 and then transferring them to your PSP is causing licensing issues.

Sackboy Invades PSP Next Month

October 6th, 2009

Sackboy invades the PSP in North America when the game is released on November 17th 2009. The official release date was announced by MediaMolecule, however, no date for Europe was announced. Europeans can expect the game some time this year but it may be weeks after the North American release. LittleBigPlanet for the PSP features a bigger single-player component, though it lacks multiplayer gameplay.

PSPgo Review

The PSPgo is the latest PSP model from Sony, released on October 1st 2009. The PSPgo is the smallest and lightest PSP yet, weighing in a just 160g. It’s 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the original PSP (PSP-1000). We’ve been playing with the PSPgo for a couple of days now and though it was about time we share out thoughts. In short, the new model is great but there are a few short-comings.

PSPgo Hacked Already

While Sony went to great lengths towards preventing a repeat of the Pandora battery hack on PSPgo, they evidently forgot to patch up some existing security vulnerabilities on the software side. Mere days after the launch of the new hardware, homebrew developer FreePlay has managed to run unsigned code on it. Below is a video clip showing off his efforts in the form of a “Hello World!” proof of concept.

System Software Ver. 6.10

PlayStation Network

  • [Memory Stick] has been added as a save destination for content that is downloaded from PlayStation Store.
    • This feature is compatible with PSPN-1000 (PSPgo) series only.

Music

  • SensMe channels has been added as a new feature.
  • You can now import playlists that are created using the Media Go application.

Game

  • [Update] has been added to the options menu for games.
    • By selecting this option, you can connect your system to the Internet and check whether update data is available for the game in use. If update data is available, you can use this option to download and install the update data.

Settings

  • In [Display Panel Close Options] under Settings > [System Settings], the design for the [Standard] theme has been changed.
    • This feature is compatible with PSPN-1000 (PSPgo) series only.

Other

  • The Dial-up Networking (DUN) profile has been added as one of the supported Bluetooth® profiles.
    • This feature is compatible with PSPN-1000 (PSPgo) series only.

Final Fantasy VIII Coming to Europe Soon

Mike Kebby over on the EU PlayStation.Blog let slip that Final Fantasy VIII will be available in Europe “soonish.” FFVIII, the fastest selling FF game of all time, was originally released in 1999 on the PlayStation, and was revived a few weeks ago when it hit the Japanese PlayStation Store. This is especially good news to Europe as some versions of the original PSOne game does not work on the PS3.

PSP-PS3 Connectivity for Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed games for the PSP and PlayStation 3 will be interconnectable, allowing certain unlockables to be transferred between the two different games. This includes currency conversion between the PSP and PS3 versions and health upgrades from the PS3 to PSP versions (details below). The PSP-3000 will be bundled with Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines and will be available to purchase from November 17th. The bundle will also come with a 2GB Memory Stick Duo and a download voucher for the movie “Angels and Demons”.
