Gaming has been growing with the female market for several years now. In fact, there number of male to female games are slowly reaching equal numbers. According to Nielsen, around 45% of active gamers are female. Even more surprising is that that PSP is more popular with female gamers, with 52% of owners being female.

Sony has been thinking about adding Trophy support to the PSP for some time now, but they are trying to tackle some technical difficulties – the biggest of which is the piracy issue. According to President of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, “It’s under discussion, but there are some technical challenges.” Recently though, rumors have begun once again. The LittleBigPlanet PSP box clearly shows “Trophies” as one of the features of the game.

Great news for all of you Ad Hoc fans out there –adhocParty for the PSP system, which first launched in Japan last year, is coming to North America! AdhocParty is an online service that allows PSP owners with a PS3 system to connect to one another via the PlayStation Network. It will be available as a free download on the PlayStation Store soon.

Most games these days are multi-platform, and you may be wondering if Gran Turismo will ever be available on the Nintendo DS or even the iPhone. According to Sony, Gran Turismo is only possible on the PSP and PlayStation 3. While there hasn’t been an official comment from the developers, the latest Gran Turismo advert (see below) clearly states it’s “only possible on the PSP and PSPgo.”

It looks like a new PSP service, PlayStation Room, will be similar to Home for the PlayStation 3. At the Tokyo Game Show yesterday, Sony announced that the PSP service will allow users to create 3D avatars, room spaces, blogs, albums, and chat support. This new service will be added via an upcoming PSP firmware update sometime this winter. You will be able to launch the service directly from the PlayStation Network menu on the XMB.

Earlier this week, Firmware 6.0 was released to developers and it could soon be released to the general public. Allison Walter of NIS America said that firmware 6.0 will be released on or before September 10th 2009, while answering some fan questions regarding the Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman! demo.

Have you pre-ordered your PSP Go! yet? Sony has announced that gamers who register their PSP Go! during the launch week will each receive a free digital copy of Gran Turismo for PSP. Andrew House (CEO of SCEE) announced at GamesCom that registering your PSP Go! between the 1st and 10th of October will get you a free downloadable copy of the game.

Sony announced a Digital Comic Service for the PSP earlier today at their GamesCom Press Conference. The new service will allow PSP owners to access a range of media on their PSP. The digital reader service will be launched with Digital Comics this December in select countries, the U.S, and regions in Europe. The service will include content from leading comic publishers, Marvel Entertainment, as well as other partners.
