Gamescom 2011: New PSP Announced

While most were expecting PlayStation Vita announcements at Gamescom earlier this week, Sony actually announced a brand new PSP model, the PSP-E1000. This new model’s aim is value for money, retailing at just €99.99 (RRP), accompanied by an exciting range of PSP Essentials titles that will retail at only €9.99 (RRP).

PSP System Software Update v6.37 Available Now

January 20th, 2011

A new PSP Firmware is now available to download using the System Update feature on the device. Firmware version v6.37 is a minor update that improves system software stability during use of some features. It may also include some sort of code to block the recent hacking of the PSPgo, but this is speculation for now.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta Release Date and Pre-Order Pack

The next God of War title for the PSP, Ghost of Sparta is only a few months away from release. The game will be available on UMD and via digital download from November 2nd 2010 – the official release date for the game. Best of all, pre-order the game now and get exclusive content on release.

Sony has no Plans for 3D on PSP (Yet)

One of the biggest announcements at E3 2010 earlier this month was the announcement of the Nintendo 3DS, the first portable console with 3D gameplay without the need for glasses. With Sony already selling 3DTVs and games, the next logical step would be to add 3D to the PSP…

E3 2010: Sony Wants to Keep the PSP Going for 10 Years

In an interview with Joystiq, John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing at SCEA, said that the PSP will be around for 10-years. Koller stressed once again that the first PSP will have a 10-year cycle: “There is definitely a 10-year life cycle for the PSP, and maybe even more.”

SCEA Has 15 New Titles Planned

According to the ESRB website, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has a total of 15 new PSP titles in the works. Most (if not all) of the games appear to be downloadable efforts, considering the simplistic quality of their descriptions; however, these games are unlikely to be part of PlayStation Minis, as they are rated exclusively for PSP (Minis are playable on the PSP and PS3).

Happy 5th Birthday to PSP

March 24, 2005 will always be known in PlayStation history as the day Sony debuted the PSP system in North America. Limited Edition Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP

More Than Half Of PSP Gamers Are Women

Gaming has been growing with the female market for several years now. In fact, there number of male to female games are slowly reaching equal numbers. According to Nielsen, around 45% of active gamers are female. Even more surprising is that that PSP is more popular with female gamers, with 52% of owners being female.

PSP to Get Trophies?

Sony has been thinking about adding Trophy support to the PSP for some time now, but they are trying to tackle some technical difficulties – the biggest of which is the piracy issue. According to President of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, “It’s under discussion, but there are some technical challenges.” Recently though, rumors have begun once again. The LittleBigPlanet PSP box clearly shows “Trophies” as one of the features of the game.
